Instructional Model

Writing for learning allows students to share their thinking as they read. It provides a way for students to organize ideas, summarize, analyze, compare, and deepen their understanding. As students write about what they have read, they are able to clarify and share their thinking. Some ways students write for learning are:

  • notetaking
  • graphic organizers
  • summarizing
  • outlining
  • informational paragraphs and essays
  • reading logs and journals
  • reading blogs
